adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker

To kick off our best outdoor basketball shoes review list, let’s do a review of the adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker. Now, assuming that you have some familiarity with athletic shoes already, then the name adidas is going to be very familiar to you, and for good reason.

Alongside Nike, adidas is easily one of the top 2 brands when it comes to athletic shoes in general, and basketball shoes in particular. You are going to see both brands appear on this review list a lot. Now, picking shoes from their vast catalogue to feature on the list wasn’t an easy task, but we think that one pair of shoes that definitely need to be on the list is the adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker.

The first thing to note about these shoes is that they bring that signature adidas quality to the table. As we continue on with this review list and review other shoes from adidas, you will start to see exactly what we are talking about.

The adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker are an extremely well-made shoe. They have a strong exterior that is made of tough, durable synthetic material. With a lot of shoes, especially athletic ones, they wear out quickly because your feet are turning inside them constantly which stretches out low-quality material. That isn’t an issue with the adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker because the shoes use this strong synthetic material that is both comfortable and that maintains its shape really well.

Something else to note about this shoe is that it does a great job when it comes to impact absorption. Impact absorption is another thing that you might not be all that familiar with if you aren’t used to using athletic shoes, but that is very important (again, this will be explained later on). The shock absorption of these shoes help to prevent any potential injuries or muscle soreness.

The only issue that we would mention regarding the adidas Hoops 2.0 Mid Sneaker is that it is a bit smothering. As we go through our best outdoor basketball shoes review list, you will see why breathability is such an important criteria for evaluating basketball shoes.

These shoes, simply put, are not very breathable. The material on the outside is strong, but it also does a poor job of letting air flow throughout the shoe. So, be prepared for a lot of extremely sweaty socks and be prepared to let your feet air out regularly when wearing the shoes.

Pros
  • Very good at absorbing the impact created by competitive basketball play.
  • Strong, but flexible synthetic material.
  • Signature adidas quality.
  • Very comfortable shoe overall.
Cons
  • Outside material of the shoe isn’t the best for breathability.

Nike Air Visi Pro Vi

The next shoe that we think deserves of a review on our best outdoor basketball shoes review list is the Nike Air Visi Pro Vi. As we said in our earlier review of the adidas shoe, Nike is one of the absolute most well-known brands around when it comes to shoes of any kind, let alone basketball shoes.

Alongside adidas, Nike is another brand that is going to pop up multiple times on this review list, and it is also another brand that we had issues actually picking a shoe from because they have so many great options to choose from. The specific Nike shoe that we ended up going for was the Nike Air Visi Pro Vi.

One of the best things about the Nike Air Visi Pro Vi, especially in comparison to the adidas shoe that we reviewed earlier, is how it manages to combine both strength and comfort into one package.

The material that the shoe is made of is this really lightweight, thin synthetic material. It also has a lot of mesh components as well. However, despite seeming to prioritize comfort, the shoe also manages to remain remarkably strong.

The material doesn’t stretch easily, and tearing is a non-issue. It is just a very strong, durable shoe. This isn’t too surprising, as Nike’s top of the line athletic shoes are known for their durability and quality.

Something else that we should mention is the strong, well-made rubber sole on the Nike Air. The rubber sole does a great job of absorbing impact on either a hard concrete surface (for outdoor play) or a regulation court (for indoor play). Therefore, the Nike Air Visi Pro Vi ends up providing an equal amount of protection, regardless of if you play on a concrete surface or a fully equipped court.

One issue with the Nike Air Visi Pro Vi has to do with its price. Let’s face it, due to their intense brand recognition, Nike shoes are always going to be a bit on the pricey side. Much like with iPhones and Macs, the name alone invites a huge price markup.

However, given that these basketball shoes aren’t even associated with a specific player (sponsored), they are quite highly priced. Of course, as we showed in the rest of our review, they are quite well-made overall, but the price might be a deal breaker for quite a few of you. If you aren’t one of those for who price is an issue, it is most definitely good shoe choice.

Pros
  • Extremely durable shoe that will last.
  • Provides great protection and grip on both indoor and outdoor surfaces.
  • Quick tying system.
  • Mesh and lightweight synthetic material help to keep shoe comfortable and breathable.
Cons
  • Pretty pricey for a non-sponsored shoe.

Beita High Upper Basketball Shoes

The next product that we want to review on our best outdoor basketball shoes list is a rarity for this list because as you can see from the product name, this is the first shoe (as well as the only shoe) that isn’t from one of the major shoe companies like Nike or adidas.

However, the Beita High Upper Basketball Shoes are a great, low-cost basketball shoe option. Even though Beita isn’t quite as famous as either of those two brands that we mentioned, but they are definitely capable of making a good pair of shoes, as this one shows.

Probably the main thing about this shoe that we want to highlight is its price. So far on our list, we have looked at shoes that are entirely from really big name brands like Nike and adidas.

The reality of the way that brands work is that these shoes end up being a lot more expensive due to the fact that they are both made from really high-quality materials and the very famous brand names. So, we wanted to make sure that we were able to include at least one option on our review list that was capable of appealing to people on lower budgets.

Despite the low price of the shoes, they are still remarkably well-made. They have a ton of great features that you have seen on other, more expensive options on our best outdoor basketball shoes list.

For example, it uses a very lightweight, breathable material that helps to keep you comfortable and energized when playing an intense game of basketball. At the same time, despite being such a relatively lightweight basketball shoe, it manages to end up being relatively strong and flexible, which are also things that you look for in a basketball shoe.

Pros
  • Reasonably priced shoes.
  • Decent quality, despite price.
  • Very breathable shoe.
Cons
  • Not from one of the reliable, well-known shoe brands.

adidas Dame 5

The next shoe that we want to take a look at is another first for our best outdoor basketball shoes review list. As you can see quite clearly for yourself, the adidas Dame 5 is the first entry on our review list that is actually endorsed by a player.

If you are familiar at all with basketball as a sport, then you know that players often design and release their own shoes. One such example is Portland Trailblazer ‘s star Damian Lillard. His adidas Dame 5 is a good shoe that we think is worthy of being included on this list.

In spite of the endorsement and design, this is still an adidas shoe and so you can trust that it is exceptionally well-made. Like most high-end adidas basketball shoes, the adidas Dame 5 manages to do a good job of balancing between flexibility and strength. On the one hand, the shoe fits extremely well and it is lightweight, so you never feel constrained when wearing it.

Your feet always feel comfortable in the adidas Dame 5. At the same time, you have to be careful not to mistake that comfort for weakness. These are not poorly made shoes in the slightest. The material remains remarkably strong and these shoes should be a frequent part of your basketball playing for a while.

So, overall these shoes are great, and they easily live up to the reputation of both the shoe brand and the amazing player that sponsored the shoe.

Pros
  • Great sponsor in the form of Damian Lillard.
  • Great overall design.
  • Keeps their shape very well.
  • Remains very breathable and light.
Cons
  • Name and sponsor do add quite a bit to the price.

Nike Zoom Rev II Basketball Shoe

For the final review on our best outdoor basketball shoes review list, we are going to be going back to that brand that has appeared before on our review list, which is Nike.

We have already talked a lot in a previous review about Nike’s credentials, so we don’t want to go over that again since you already know already why they are such a good shoe company. The next shoe from them that we think is deserving of being on this review list is the Nike Zoom Rev II Basketball Shoe. This really is, in our opinion, one of the better Nike basketball shoes on the market.

The first thing that we want to note about the Nike Zoom Rev II Basketball Shoe is how light this particular shoe is. Nike shoes tend to be fairly light, but this one is especially so. It is made from a super lightweight, synthetic material.

You can see for yourself just how light this shoe is. By the same token, these shoes are both tough (meaning that the shoes are going to last you for a while) and very well-fitting. So, if you are looking for comfortable shoes, then the Nike Zoom Rev II Basketball Shoe.

Pros
  • An extremely high-quality shoe in all aspects.
  • Super comfortable to wear.
  • An extremely light and airy shoe.
  • Very soft and great at absorbing impact.
Cons
  • Nike shoes are always a bit pricey.

Basketball Shoe Buying Guide

Best Outdoor Basketball Shoes

If you enjoyed our above basketball shoe review list, then you may also enjoy this follow up part of our best outdoor basketball shoes article. As you can probably see for yourself, we are going to be taking a look, not at individual products, but at basketball shoes as a whole.

We are going to talk about the important criteria that any potential buyer needs to know before they actually make a commitment to purchase specific pair of shoes. These are the same criteria that we used when deciding what pairs of shoes should be featured on our review list.

Absorbing the Impact of the Court

The first and absolute most important thing to pick out when buying a pair of basketball shoes is how well they absorb the impact of the court when you play. Ever wonder why the most serious injuries in basketball always come in the ACL area or the ankles? Well, that is because when you play basketball, a ton of force is generated that is then transferred straight to your knees and legs.

Without proper shock absorbing shoes, all that force is going to go straight into your legs and cause injuries. That is why on our best outdoor basketball shoes review list, we placed a heavy emphasis on this.

Breathability of the Shoe

Next up in terms of importance after shock absorption is the importance of breathability. You really want a shoe that is breathable. When it comes to athletic shoes, the breathability of the shoe is really going to be the single biggest determiner of whether a pair of shoes are is comfortable or not.

Essentially, what breathability refers to, is how well the basketball shoe does at allowing air to flow in and out of the shoe. Shoes with mesh exteriors do a very good job of letting air flow in and out. It helps to keep your feet relatively sweat free as well.

The Weight of the Shoe

Moving on, we want to talk about the weight of the shoe. This is something that is important because it might not actually pop into your head when thinking of buying a basketball shoe.

The lighter a shoe is, the easier it is for you to actually carry it around when running. What does this mean for your game? It means that you can play for longer and get less fatigued. The weight of your basketball shoes will actually have a noticeably large impact on your overall game.

Cost

When it comes to basketball shoes, the price of them can vary quite a bit depending on a wide variety of factors. So, in this part of the buying guide, we wanted to quickly go over what those factors are. Even though we covered this to some extent in our best outdoor basketball shoes review list, we wanted to go over it again the buying guide to ensure that we are all on the same page regarding this.

Cost is primarily affected by 3 different factors. The first factor is the brand of the shoe. As we said a few times during the course of our shoe review list, shoes from high profile brands like Nike, adidas, and Jordan are simply going to be a lot more expensive than shoes from no-name brands or lesser known brands like New Balance.

The second factor is whether the shoe has a specific player as a sponsor. If you follow the NBA, then you know that most of the top players (Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, etc.) endorse shoes. This does naturally result in a price increase. Finally, the actual quality of the shoe is also going to impact the price as well.

All of these factors and more go into determining what you are going to be paying for your preferred basketball shoes.

Conclusion
